Handsome Choices in Sustainable Flooring

While I don't believe in pushing a particular style onto a client, I do encourage them to make choices that will continue to perform well for years to come. Nowhere is this more important than in choosing flooring, because face it, we just tend to walk all over our flooring.

While those are good reasons to choose quality, there are also two good reasons to opt for an eco-friendly flooring. The first is purely selfish - it's much better for your health. EPA studies have shown that the pollution levels indoors are often two to five times higher than they are outside. After cabinetry, the biggest offender is usually flooring. A new carpet or flooring can fill the air with hundreds of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including known and suspected carcinogens like formaldehyde and benzene. Cork FloorIt can take years for these substances to dissipate.

Concrete FlooringLuckily for all of us, the options available in earth-friendly flooring are staggering. They fall into several categories - carpeting, bamboo, hardwood, cork, tile, linoleum and even a few carpets. Within each of those categories, your choices are only as limited as your designer's imagination!

Which type of flooring will work best for you depends mostly on your lifestyle, family circumstances, and which room you are flooring. I will be happy to consult with you to ensure that you make choice that works beautifully - and looks beautiful as well. (If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area, I'm happy to come to your home. If you'd prefer, I can also consult over the phone via my Home Design Helpdesk.)Plyboo flooring

What? You say I forgot to tell you the second reason it's good to choose green flooring? Because it's green, of course!
